Pass the Robot Please

The latest in Salt and Peppering comes from the Salt and Pepper Bots. These clever little robots not only act as classic looking salt and pepper dispensers, they can be wound up using the key on the side and sent accross the table at will!

This will obviously mean less leaning over tables to pass the salt, but unfortunately there will be so much fun to be had your dinner could end up with a dangerously unhealthy amount of salt and pepper on it!

These little guys have just arrived in our store, and are also available to order online right now...

Explosive Xmas Decorations

Something we are going to start doing more is featuring some of the gifts and gadgets available from our store, with many being made available to buy online. But before anything else we couldn't resist uploading these amazing decorations which have just arrived (believe us they have to be good for us to be stocking any form of decorations - fairy lights and tinsel aren't really our thing!)

The 'Xmas Declerations' are delicate glass bauble replicas of hand grenades, that in their high quality chrome finish add a real sparkle to any christmas tree, whilst acting as a subtle reminder of the hardships endured elsewhere in the world around this time of year. Designed by creative collective 'Dorothy' and manufactured exclusively by Suck UK, these Grenade baubles come in sets of 6 and each pack bought will make a contribution to Ctrl.Alt.Shift's fight against global conflict.

Watch this space for future gift ideas, as we will be uploading some more of our favourites in the run up to Xmas.

Brixton Hats and Beanies arrive...

Just in time for the cold snap we've had some hats and beanies in from Brixton. Brixton have been around for 5 years, mainly specialising in a range of mens hats, but also producing several cut and sew lines. The look they have perfected with their pieces draws heavily on the traditional, but adds a clean modern angle that sets them apart - this is achieved by their 3 founders who draw on the influences around them to create their designs.

The Busker Hat is one of Brixton's most recognisable styles, military influenced and with some really smart clean branding. The Heist Beanie is a classic looking knit beanie that can be worn either rolled up or down, thanks to the double sided tab branding at the bottom. Brixton stuff tends to sell out as soon as we receive it into store, so check them out quickly before they all go!

Stussy x James Jarvis

Exciting news (like all our Xmas' came at once!) from the Stussy camp - as part of next years 30th anniversary celebrations, they will be collaborating with legendary Silas and Amos Toys designer James Jarvis. Famed for his In Crowd and King Ken series, Jarvis has produced three designs for Stussy which will be available in a variety of colourways.

We've just seen the designs, and can happily confirm they are every bit as good as you would expect from a collaboration between two as big as James Jarvis and Stussy. The limited edition tees will be available Summer 2010 - its a long time to wait, but a wait that will be well worth it!

Carhartt Womens Top Up

Our online shop has just had some Carhartt Womens stock added, including one of their best selling check shirt-dresses, the Leaf Dress, and a fully lined water repellant jacket - the Sail Jacket. Alongside these we have a design from Carhartt's artist's t-shirt series, and some more basics from their training programme collection.

Carhartt's womens range gets better season on season, with their designers now looking to create specific women's pieces as opposed to just changing the cuts on the mens range to suit.

Penfield Womens Jackets

Outdoor specialists Penfield have made their name from their goose down layered jackets, and have a heritage stretching back many years. The good news is although the main part of their range is filled with mens jackets, they also have a few of their key pieces retweaked into womens jackets.

These include the Jupa Vest a version of the classic Penfield down filled vest with an adjustable hood, and the Millis Jacket which is in the classic shape of their down filled jacket. These are both constructed to the high level of quaility you would expect from any Penfield garment, and are fully insulated to protect you against whatever the weather throws at you!

Wight Trash Online

We have finally had some stock from Wight Trash uploaded to our site - conveniently coinciding with the relaunch of their own website (www.wight-trash.com.) We have worked with Wight Trash since we started, and to date they are still one of our most successful brands. Founder John Cattle has taken them from producing a few basic t-shirts, to releasing an expansive range of clothing, accessories and hardware, and they are now one of the most recognised local brands.

Wight Trash has a well established skate team, and regularly work with the local skate community to help out and improve facilities. Their recent 'Transitions' cd series was a major success - a compilation of local artists music including songs provided by The Bees, Jackson Analogue, Mark King and The Operators - all in aid of raising money for the Ventnor Skate Park regeneration.

The "Wight Trash Logo T-shirt" is consistently one of our best sellers, along with a t-shirt design from graphic artist Nathan Holt - "Wight Trash Nathan T-shirt". You can view our full range here.

Obey Glow in the Dark Series

Obey are always ahead of the game when it comes to tee designs and this latest collection is no exception. The Glow in the Dark series features a range of fresh new designs, all printed in a special kind of glow ink. Unlike other glow in the dark inks, this charges off just a few minutes of artificial or natural light, and can last for hours. Obey have done a range in both blue and green inks, and all are equally effective!

We have so far received two designs into stock - 'Party with the Posse' which uses the Green glow ink, and 'Outline' which features Shepard Fairey's classic 'Andre the Giant' face in a Blue glow ink design. As with all Obey t-shirts, these are strictly limited in number - you can check out a video of one of them in action on Youtube - Obey Glow in the Dark Demo.

Boxfresh Footwear

Our latest range of Boxfresh footwear has just been uploaded to the site, featuring some of the best in smart/casual shoes from the legendary British streetwear labels latest collection. Gentle Fawn AW 09

We've just had our Autumn/Winter stock from Gentle Fawn uploaded to the site, and its looking mighty fine this season! The Canadian label may only have been around for 6 years, but they have already established themselves as one of the leading women's brands to crossover into the streetwear market with their subtle mix of urban and nature in their designs.

Stand out pieces this season for the ladies include -

The Hepburn Jacket - Perfect vintage look, wool mix zip-up jacket, with great flattering cut, and multiple contrast button and lining features.

Polish Dress - Great way to turn heads this autumn with this fantastic looking dress, with custom printed chiffon lower.

Flaunt Top - Great little top that can be either dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. Gingham print around the neckline really sets this piece off.

Boxfresh x Berghaus Collection

Following on from last years collaboration with legendary Outdoor specialists Barbour, Boxfresh have stepped up again this Autumn/Winter to produce a collection in conjunction with another legened in the outerwear field - none other than Berghaus.

The concept behind this collaboration is to combine the specialities of the two brands, fusing Boxfresh's design with Berghaus' technicality - resulting in some of the ultimate outerwear! The collection consists of three pieces - 'Beton' a fully insulated down filled jacket, 'Baal' a waterproof technical jacket, and 'Habitue' a wind resistant fully vented fleece layer. This collection will be hitting the streets in the next couple of weeks.

Switch Top 5 Mens Jackets for October

So we've finally managed to crawl out from underneath the piles of boxes that have been arriving at Switch HQ over the last month, and can now start to bring you the highlights of our Autumn/Winter collection. Each month we try to bring you a variety of top 5 essentials focusing on one area of our store - compiled from a combination of our own recommendations and our best selling pieces.

As the temperature is starting to drop, we thought we'd start with mens jackets:
  1. Penfield Kasson Jacket (Navy)/Penfield Kasson Jacket (Melton Wool) - a jacket that should need no introduction, this best selling piece from Penfield Clothing has been around a while now but continues to deliver season on season. Now available in a brand new Melton Wool finish, adding extra warmth and style to an already classic jacket shape.
  2. Obey Iggy Jacket - The Autumn/Winter 09 take on the M65 style military jacket from Obey Clothing, that gives one of the best looking fits in this style of jacket, whilst offering stacks of warmth and comfort. Features Obey's brand new subtle pinbadge branding.
  3. Comune Derek Jacket - A brand new jacket from a brand new label - born out of the ashes of Ambiguous clothing, 'The Comune' have focused on unique design features across their range for this season. This baseball style jacket features loads of neat detailing, with graffiti print lining, safety pin style branding and waxed drawcord hood - also one of the best looking jackets we've seen all season!
  4. Carhartt Deluxe Jacket - The first thing that will strike you when you see this jacket, is how amazingly warm it looks! With a 'sheeps wool style' lining, this jacket will certainly be a valuable asset in the coming months - combined with all the usual great fit and quality that we come to expect from Carhartt Clothing, this is a real winner!
  5. Penfield Rockford Jacket - Penfield are specialists in the outdoor clothing market, so I suppose its hardly surprising they feature twice in our top 5! The Rockford Jacket is another classic, best selling piece, fully insulated with a goose-down mix, and topped off nicely with the plaid detailing to the top of the shoulders.

Penfield X Rag and Bone Collaboration

Over the last few years Penfield Clothing have managed to rack up some very high profile collaborations, with the likes of Stussy, Alife, DPM and many others. Their latest capsule collection is no exception to this - joining forces with US based lifestyle brand 'Rag & Bone'.

This 3 piece collection of outerwear includes two jackets and a vest, all featuring wool and leather detailing. More details and images of these jackets can be found here: http://www.highsnobiety.com/news/2009/10/15/penfield-x-rag-bone-capsule-collection/

Get Checked this Autumn

You can't walk down the street anymore without seeing at least some sort of classic checked shirt or garment walking in the other direction. Although the return of check is not big news, this season has seen possibly some of the strongest use of checks so far! Carhartt have designed a whole programme incorporating their 'Matrix Check' into a range of jackets, shirts, bags and accessories (view our Matrix check range.) Meanwhile Penfield have added some great new designs to their range which already included best seller 'Chatham Shirt' (which also makes a return in some new colourways.)

Our current range of shirts is by far our best 'check-fest' (view our shirt dept,) but lookout for some of the other pieces on offer from the likes of Obey, Carhartt, Penfield and Boxfresh.

Their goal is to provide clothing that reflects this lifestyle of carefree idealism and to support the people that choose to live it.

This features photography taken by Quiet Life Camera Club members - the club was set up as an online gallery for photgraphers of all levels from around the world to exhibit their own work, and favourites.

The book is 92 colour pages of some of The Quiet Life's favourites. Link to The Quiet Life here

Calling all ladies...

A load of new women's stuff has gone live on our site today, with plenty more being added over the next few days. Some really nice dresses, tops and skirts from a new brand to Switch, Gentle Fawn (link to page) and some classic pieces from one of our old favourites, Icelandic streetwear specialists Nikira (link here).

Got a load more to add from Matix and Fenchurch amongst others, which should hopefully be live by the end of the week...

Tees are in store now, and live on the site very soon... www.switch-clothing.co.uk

Same Switch Different Day

Hello and welcome to the first Switch 45 Blog for a long time. Over the last few months we have been undergoing a lot of changes - mainly our relocation from our old store into a much bigger and better one!

Our new address for those of you paying a visit is: 23 Holyrood Street, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5AZ. You can still get us on the same phone number - (01983) 822243.

Alongside a change of location, we have now rebranded ourselves to be simply called 'Switch'. As a result we now have a brand new website address - www.switch-clothing.co.uk - although we're gonna hang on to the old URL (www.switch45.co.uk) for old times sakes (and for anyone who happens not to have noticed we've changed!)

Anyway we're proud to have added some legends in streetwear to our brand rosta, and can now boast Stussy, Boxfresh and Rogue Status alongside Gentle Fawn and Matix for the ladies. Stock is currently being uploaded to the website as fast as our internet connection can carry it, and you should be able to check out all our new ranges within a couple of weeks. For now though here are some damn useful links to some of the new gear thats brightening our store:

Check back here for updates, but we have some good stuff lined up over the next few weeks including uploads of all new stock, news of a Switch relaunch event, and images from the artwork pasting due in store from Obey.

Saturday 3 January 2009

First post for 2009, and here's wishing a Happy New Year to all from the Switch 45 team! The only words you need to hear for now are the words SALE SALE SALE. Massive reductions across our store as we look to clear our Autumn/Winter stock to make way for all the Spring/Summer delights over the next couple of months.

We have stock on sale from all of our major brands, including reductions on Penfield and Obey clothing, savings across Carhartt and Fenchurch, and clearout prices on some other great items for some of the cheapest prices you will find anywhere! We have an exclusive weeks preview online for these discounts, with the store shut for a stockcheck until the 10th Jan - so get on the Switch 45 sale while you still can!
